About me

Ellen Smiler is a Southern California–based artist whose passion for art and creativity emerged at an early age. She began her studies as a Fine Art major at the University of California, San Diego, and earned a BFA from ArtCenter College of Design in Pasadena, California. She furthered her artistic education through international study programs in Aix-en-Provence, France, and Vevey, Switzerland.

Drawing inspiration from a diverse range of artistic movements, Ellen has developed a distinctive visual language that blends contemporary design sensibilities with emotional depth. Her work is influenced by the bold color and expressive energy of the Fauvists, as well as the structural innovation that emerged from the work of early Cubism. She is also inspired by the vibrant palettes and graphic sensibilities of David Hockney and Andy Warhol, whose influence can be seen in her use of color, shape, and visual storytelling. These varied influences come together in paintings that transform familiar subjects into compelling visual narratives.

Ellen's paintings have been exhibited in juried exhibitions, including selection for the prestigious Beverly Hills Art Show. Her work is held in private collections throughout the United States and is recognized for its ability to capture both the essence of a subject and the emotional resonance of a moment.

Through portraiture, figurative work, and contemporary interpretations of cultural and spiritual themes, Ellen creates artwork that is both visually striking and deeply meaningful, inviting viewers to connect with the stories and emotions embedded within each piece.
